New Delhi: The Pakistan Army, led by Asim Munir, appears to be in trouble once again. The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) has launched Operation Almas against the Pakistan Army. Under this operation, BLF fighters are targeting Pakistani Army and government bases in Balochistan. The group claimed on Thursday that it had attacked a major Pakistani Army camp in Gwadar and also targeted a convoy of the Pakistan Army.
According to BLF spokesperson Major Gwaharam Baloch, fighters from his group's Saddo Operational Battalion and other special unit units are involved in Operation Almas. These fighters began the operation by attacking the Pakistan Army's Frontier Works Organization (FWO) camp at Gwadar Zero Point. Following the attack, BLF fighters captured the FWO.
The FWO is a military engineering organization affiliated with the Pakistani Army. It is involved in major infrastructure and construction projects across Pakistan, which the BLF has claimed to have seized. The BLF claims that its attacks killed a captain in Pakistan's Military Intelligence (MI) and several Special Services Group (SSG) personnel.
The BLF captured weapons while seizing the Mazani police station. The group also claimed responsibility for an attack on a Pakistani army convoy in the Gabd area of Gwadar district. The attack destroyed an army vehicle and left several Pakistani soldiers dead or injured. They also claimed to have seized a police post at Gabd Cross.
Major Gwahram Baloch stated that Operation Almas is ongoing on multiple fronts. The group has specifically targeted Gwadar, located on Pakistan's southwestern coast. This strategically important port city is a key part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). By targeting it, the BLF has directly challenged the Pakistani military and government.
Gwahram stated that Operation Almas is a planned attack launched by the Balochistan Liberation Front. Its aim is to target Pakistani military and government bases in Balochistan, as the group believes the Pakistani military and government are plundering the province's resources. The BLF has described it as a fight for Balochistan's independence from the Pakistani military and government.
Balochistan has a long history of violence and separatist movements. Balochistan is Pakistan's largest province by area, but has been plagued by instability since 1947. Various organizations and armed groups have consistently fought against the Pakistani army and government. Pakistan continues to ignore the demands of these groups, fueling further anger.
